THE PHYSICIANS

John P. Galgon, M.D. founded this practice over 30 years ago.  A graduate of Jefferson School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Dr. Galgon completed an internal medicine residency at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Philadelphia, where he also completed a fellowship in pulmonary disease.  He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with additional certification in Pulmonary Disease and Sleep Medicine.  Dr. Galgon has a special interest in sleep disorders. 

Joseph E. Vincent, M.D. was the first physician to join Dr. Galgon in practice.  He attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with A.O.A. honors, did an internal medicine residency and pulmonary disease fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital and completed an additional fellowship year at Case Western Reserve V.A. Hospital.  Dr. Vincent is boarded in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease.  For many years he was the Director of Critical Care Medicine for Lehigh Valley Hospital.  He is presently very involved with the Ethics Committee, the OACIS PALLIATIV care program HOSPIC. Dr. Vincent is a past president of the medical staff of Lehigh Hospital.

Jay H. Kaufman, M.D. joined the practice in 1981.  An A.O.A. graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, he went to the University of Chicago to do an internal medicine residency and then returned to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania to do a fellowship in pulmonary medicine.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine.   Dr. Kaufman serves as Chief of the Section of Pulmonary Medicine at Lehigh Valley Hospital and provides administrative oversight for the practice. 

Jonathan Hertz, M.D. is a native of New York and was the next physician to join this group in 1983.  His medical degree was received from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, with A.O.A. honors, and he completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Chicago.  Dr. Hertz completed a pulmonary medicine fellowship at Yale University.  He is certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease. 

Francis Schwiep, M.D. joined this group in 1988.  He attended Boston University School of Medicine, completed an internal medicine residency at Kings County Hospital-Downstate Medical Center in New York, and then completed a pulmonary medicine fellowship at Bellevue Hospital-New York V.A. Medical Center.  Dr. Schwiep spent one year as a research fellow in Pulmonary Medicine at New York V.A. Hospital and two years as a research fellow in pulmonary pathophysiology at the University of Texas  Southwestern Medical Center.  Dr. Schwiep served as a faculty member at the University of Texas in Dallas for two years before joining Pulmonary Associates.  He is boarded in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease. 

Daniel E. Ray, M.D. joined the practice in 1997. He received his medical degree from Ohio State. Dr. Ray did an internal medicine residency including a chief year at the Medical College of Wisconsin where he also completed a three-year fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine and a master’s degree in epidemiology. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Palliative Care and Critical Care Medicine. He is currently Medical Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at LVH and has been instrumental in developing a palliative care program at LVH.  Because of his work in palliative care, he recently received the 2006 Roger C. Bone Award from the American College of Chest Physicians. 

Richard J. Strobel, M.D. joined the practice in 1999.  He received his medical degree from the University of Texas, where he was elected to A.O.A., and completed his internal medicine residency and pulmonary/critical care fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, NH.  Prior to joining Pulmonary Associates, Dr. Strobel served as Medical Director of the Princeton Sleep Center and as Associate Professor of Medicine for the division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine.  He is Director of the Sleep Disorders Center and the Pulmonary Function Laboratory at Lehigh Valley Hospital. 

Joseph B. Schellenberg, M.D. is a native of Allentown, PA.  In January of 2000, he joined the practice after completing training in pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine and sleep at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.  Dr. Schellenberg also completed medical school and an internal medicine residency at Penn.  He is  boarded in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, and has a special interest in house staff education. He is married to a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist. 

Matthew M. McCambridge, M.D. joined the group in 2003. He obtained his medical degree from Georgetown University, graduating with AOA honors.  He then completed his internal medicine residency and pulmonary/critical care fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center followed by five years of military service at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, NC.  He is triple boarded and has a special interest in critical care and pulmonary exercise testing. Dr. McCambridge is Co-Director of the aICU and is President–Elect of the medical staff at LVH.  

Robert J. Kruklitis, M.D. joined the group in January 2004.  He graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine where he also completed a Ph.D. in Biochemistry.  He remained at Georgetown to complete his internal medicine residency and then did his pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also completed a formal fellowship in interventional bronchoscopy and thoracic oncology.  Dr. Kruklitis has a strong interest in pulmonary oncology and has developed a state of the art interventional bronchoscopy program at LVH.  He is the moderator for Pulmonary Tumor Board.  He is the Director of the Pulmonary Fellowship Program at LVH and serves as liaison to the fellowship program at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. 

Jeffrey Marsh, M.D. joined the group in August 2004. He graduated from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine.  He completed his internal medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic and then did his pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin.  Dr. Marsh also obtained a master’s degree in epidemiology from the Medical College of Wisconsin.  Before joining the group, Dr. Marsh practiced in Binghamton, NY for the United Health Services Hospitals.  Dr. Marsh serves as the Medical Director of the ICU at LVH-M and the Medical Director of the Pulmonary Unit at the LTACH.  He is the Director of Medical Student and Resident Education for the Pulmonary Division. 

Susan Gerhardt, M.D. joined the group in July 2005.  She graduated from Virginia Tech University and then completed medical school at Hahnemann University School of Medicine.  Dr. Gerhardt completed her internal medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.  She has a strong interest in critical care medicine and is the group’s liaison to the Neuro ICU at LVH. 

C. Gerard Petersen, M.D. joined the group in July 2006.  He graduated from the Tufts University School of Medicine and then completed a pathology internship and residency at The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center before going on to complete a an internal medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.  He completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Temple University Hospital and then worked in a private pulmonary and critical care practice in Bethlehem, Pa. for two years before joining the group.  Dr. Petersen has a strong interest in lung cancer. 

Vanessa Ribaudo Kaufman, M.D. is joining Pulmonary Associates after completing training in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center – The University Hospital and Manhattan Campus for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, NY.  Dr. Ribaudo Kaufman also completed an Internal Medicine residency at Beth Israel Medical Center. She completed medical school at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY.  She is board certified in Pulmonary Medicine and Internal Medicine and has a special interest in invasive bronchoscopy. She is board certified in pulmonary diseases & critical care medicine.

Jennifer C. Rovella, D.O. the group in November of 2007. She graduated from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Rovella completed her internal medicine residency at Lehigh Valley Hospital and a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. She is board certified in critical care medicine, pulmonary diseases & internal medicine.
